LG continues with its strategy of previous years, anticipating the start of CES to show its novelties and thus go making noise. In this case, it is their new LG Gram ultraportables , yes, in the plural, since the company is presenting two options for its famous ultralight laptop that we will physically meet in Las Vegas during the next CES 2019.
The 2019 version of the LG ultraportable increases its screen to 17 inches , but frames have been reduced to not increase the size of the entire device, so it is as if we had a 15.6-inch laptop with 17-inch screen, or at least that’s what LG says.
Of course, the weight is no longer below one kilo as in previous generations, but for this model is increased to 1,340 grams, which despite everything is still manageable for a 17-inch laptop. Even LG says it is the lightest 17-inch laptop on the market.
LG does not specify the processor model or speed that includes this LG Gram 17, only mentioned that it is the eighth generation of Intel . The rumors point to a Core i7 (8565U), but we need to confirm this information. It will be available in two options of RAM, 8 or 16 GB, and storage to choose between 256 and 512 GB, plus it has an additional slot to add another SSD.
An important point is that this LG Gram 17 may have support for Thunderbolt 3 through USB-C , however, this will be an additional option that will be sold separately at a price that has not been disclosed. In the rest of the connectivity, we have three USB 3.1 ports, 3.5 mm port for headphones, HDMI and microSD, while its operating system is Windows 10.
The novelty for this generation of the Gram family is the new version with a 2-in-1 convertible design that incorporates a 14-inch touch screen and also includes a Wacom AES 2.0 stylus with 4,096 pressure levels and tilt detection, which will allow to use the device in tablet format to take notes with greater comfort.
This LG Gram 14 can be used both in tablet format, by folding your keyboard in 360 by means of its new hinge, or as if it were an ultralight laptop, as has happened with this family of LG devices.
Its weight also exceeds a kilo to be exactly 1,145 grams, plus it promises a range of up to 21 hours. It should be noted that its screen does not have the same resolution as its older brother, so here we are with Full HD with a ratio 16: 9, which is tactile Gorilla Glass 5 added protection .
As for the available ports, the LG Gram 14 loses with respect to its brother the support to Thunderbolt 3 and a USB 3.1 port. For the rest of specifications, it remains the same, with the same processor, RAM and storage options, and operating system.
