Apple gives a boost to its iPad Air and iPad Mini

Written by

While Apple will hold a keynote on March 25, the firm has announced this morning, via a discreet press release, two new models of iPad. It’s a 10.5-inch iPad Air and an iPad Mini with enhanced features. New innovations welcome while Apple seemed to have abandoned the segment of tablets “compact” with no novelty since 2015.

This new member of the mobile family made in Cupertino will therefore slip into the space left between the iPad (2018) for the “general public” and the iPad Pro 11 inches for pros. To differentiate itself from the first, this new iPad Air is equipped with a 10.5-inch screen. It also takes much of the design of the iPad Pro 10.5 inches it will also replace in the catalog of Apple.

At the heart of the machine, we find a chip A12 Bionic (the same as in the iPhone XS ). The Retina display will support the Apple Pencil (strangely first generation only) and the Smart Keyboard ,the Apple keyboard. And that’s about it. The design remains the same (with large borders), the tablet retains its Lightning grip, does not earn face ID facial recognition and does not make much effort in photography (sensors 7 MP front and 8 MP to the rear). In short, we feel that Apple does not have much to phosphor to stay king on the market.

Pre-orders are already open and prices start at 569 € (Wi-Fi / 64 GB) to go up to 879 € (4G / 256 GB). The device should arrive in the hands of consumers by the end of next week.

It’s about the same on the side of the iPad Mini. We find a chip A12 Bionic, the support of the Apple Pencil (first generation always), but no keyboard for lack of an accessory to the right size. The screen still peaks at 7.9 inches, but becomes brighter and offers TrueTone compatibility (which adjusts the screen temperature according to ambient light). The photo arrangement is the same as on Air with 7 MP front and 8 MP front.

Finally, prices range from € 459 (Wi-Fi / 64 GB) to € 769 (4G / 256 GB). Same story as the Air model: pre-orders are open and the terminal will arrive in stores next weekend.

Stay ahead

By getting rid of these iPad ads before the week ahead, Apple ensures that all attention will remain focused on its streaming service at the keynote of March 25. An understandable strategy when we know that the “services” take more and more importance at the manufacturer. We also feel that the company did not go to great lengths for these new iPads and was content to improve two-three little things to continue to dominate a market where she is queen year after year.
