Acer grandPad: a 7-inch tablet dedicated to seniors

Acer introduced a few days ago a new 7-inch tablet. Called GrandPad, it is intended especially for seniors. The tablet benefits from an adapted interface and is accompanied by services via a monthly subscription.

Hardware side, this GrandPad is not extraordinary with its small screen of 7 inches of which we do not know the technology of the slab, but which displays a definition Full HD (1920 x 1080 px). It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC with 4 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and 2 GB of RAM, the internal memory is 32 GB. The GrandPad is adorned with a 5 megapixel photo sensor. rear and a second one of 1.2 Mpx in the front. In addition to Wi-Fi, there is a 4G LTE compatibility.

But it is especially its software that makes all the interest of this tablet. Here, point of Android or Windows 10, but an OS developed by the company GrandPad, based in the United States and with which Acer has associated. As it is on the devices dedicated to older, the interface consists of big buttons easily identifiable and the whole remains very simple. The system is based on a platform that must be managed by a person designated as an administrator of the account. This person can add content such as photos or videos by downloading them on the site or by linking Facebook accounts, whose published photos will be on the tablet.

A list of games is also preinstalled and we find the great classics of the genre: Solitaire, Hangman, Sudoku or even Crossword. An Uber app should also be coming soon. Acer announces a range of 1 to 3 days and it is possible to be called by the technical support when the level of the battery passes below the 10% mark.

To afford this tablet, however, it must pass through the box subscription, the product itself is not directly billed. This subscription in the order of $ 60 per month gives access to a 4G package and the slate remains the property of Acer. For the moment, only the United States are concerned by this service and Acer grandPad.
